Liam Dawson struck 66 not out on Test debut for England in the fifth Test in Chennai earlier today. Dawson put on a partnership of 108 with fellow spinner Adil Rashid (60) as England chalked up a decent 477 all out in their first innings. Moeen Ali had earlier made 146 and these performances make for great competition amongst England’s spinners ahead of home Test matches next year. Rashid may have just edged ahead of Moeen based on bowling alone but Moeen has surely earned a run in the number four spot regardless of the destination. Dawson will want to back up his maiden batting effort with an effective bowling performance and then maybe England will come out of this dark tour with some positives, namely the breeding of competition amongst their spin contingent.
I think India have record that every debutant scores 50 100 vs india.

Good observation. Hameed got a fifty, Jennings a century and now Dawson a fifty too. Maybe England should have handed out more debuts!
